Many youth in Kenya search for a home, a sense of belonging and identity, a place where they can be heard, be of service to themselves and others in the community. This is where Eastleigh Youth Forum comes in. A non-profit organization that was started in 2011 and registered in 2012, that seeks to change lives and livelihoods of youth through media, seminars, workshops and trainings. As many would also call it, a small Hollywood in Kenya!

Eastleighwood aims at increasing the level of awareness among communities through information sharing using different platforms. It also seeks to establish strategic partnerships and sustainable network with other stakeholders from private/ public sectors to promote peace and social economic empowerment. Lastly, it promotes vocational/crash program trainings for youth with formal and informal education, but with special needs.
A breakdown of the organization’s activities would include trainings in photojournalism, videography, basic computer studies and languages. Mentorship on life skills and entrepreneurial skills. Nurturing talent, that is providing a platform where artists models, dancers and youth alike can showcase and grow talent. Lastly, keeping track of how far the knowledge provided led the youth.
Since the organization’s existence, with no discrimination of race or gender, over 10973 youth have been successfully trained and equipped with skills. Skills enabling them access to employment and at the same time being self-employed. Some youth even go the extra mile to serve and volunteer in organizations. Here, they not only build their resumes and genuinely give a helping hand, but they also become role models to other youth in the society.
Two youth express their experience having being at Eastleighwood… “We were taught how to shoot videos, how to act, how to make films, documentaries, script writing and all that. We have benefited a lot from this training and hope to introduce many things… I would like to tell my fellow youth to make the most of this training at Eastleighwood , it feels like home and is open for everyone…”
Let us change with Eastleighwood, make the world a better place and if possible, impact as many youths lives with knowledge and skills to help them get to the next level. That is, self empowerment.
